Cookies Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site, which sets cookies. We don't use advertising cookies, cross-site ad tracking, or fingerprinting. This page lists exactly what is set and how to opt out.
Cookies we set
| Name | Purpose | Set when | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_<id> | Google Analytics (GA4). Distinguishes visitors and sessions to measure how the site is used. Set by Google. | On your first visit to the site. | Up to 2 years |
| staff_session | Keeps a member of the Alian team signed in to the internal staff dashboard. Strictly necessary, HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax. | Only after staff log in — never for public visitors. | 7 days |
Local storage (not cookies)
A few small preferences are stored in your browser's local and session storage. These never leave your device, are not sent to our server, and are not cookies:
| Key | Purpose | Where / how long |
|---|---|---|
| theme | Remembers your dark / light mode preference. | localStorage · until you clear it |
| cookie-notice-ack | Remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice, so we don't show it again. | localStorage · until you clear it |
| headline_typed | Flag so the hero headline animation only plays once per visit. | sessionStorage · until the tab closes |
Analytics
Google Analytics (GA4). We use GA4 to understand how visitors find and use the site. GA4 sets the _ga cookies above and sends usage data to Google. It runs for all visitors.
Plausible. We also use Plausible, which is GDPR-compliant and uses no cookies and no fingerprinting. It records anonymized, aggregate pageviews and events with no persistent identifier.
We also use Google Search Console, which is a verification tag in the page head — it sets no cookies.
Opting out of analytics cookies
You can opt out of the Google Analytics _ga cookies in a few ways:
- Install Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Block third-party / analytics cookies in your browser settings, or use a tracker-blocking extension.
- Clear this site's cookies and data from your browser at any time.
Server-side storage
When you submit a form, we store the submission in our database so we can reply to you. That's not a cookie, but it's worth knowing about. See the Privacy Policy for what we keep and for how long.
