The making of A Direct-to-Home Shopify Store for a Papad Manufacturer
Khurat makes India's first flat, thin khichiya papad. We built their Shopify store — variant cards, bundles, wholesale route, marketplace strip. See how.

Challenges
- Papad is a low-ticket, high-repeat staple that most customers already buy from a kirana or a marketplace, so the store had to make reordering faster than either — which is why flavour and weight are selectable on the collection card and bundles push a single pack to a two-pack basket
- Shipping cost can exceed the product price on a ₹120 order, so the shipping rules — free in Gujarat, free above ₹500 elsewhere — had to be designed as a merchandising lever and surfaced on every page rather than discovered at checkout
- The brand sells to households, to marketplaces and to distributors at the same time, and the storefront had to serve a wholesale buyer evaluating a 30-tonne-a-day manufacturer without diluting a consumer page built around a ₹120 pack of papad
Solution
Khurat is a Gujarat food manufacturer with a fully automated plant producing 30 tonnes a day of what it calls India's first flat, thin khichiya papad — fully dehydrated, oil-free and ready to roast or fry without sun-drying — alongside a growing range of single-ingredient natural powders and dried fruit flakes. The brand sells through Amazon, Flipkart and Blinkit and through distributors, and wanted a storefront of its own that could carry the direct-to-home sale and the wholesale enquiry at once. We built it on Shopify with Dawn forked into a branch-based workflow and tuned it for how Indian grocery is bought online: flavour and pack size selectable on the collection card itself, price per gram beside every price, a nutrition table and ingredient list on every product, Frequently Bought Together bundles, free shipping within Gujarat with a ₹500 threshold for the rest of India, and WhatsApp as the support channel. Judge.me carries the reviews — 152 on the bestselling wheat papad alone — a marketplace strip shows where else the products are stocked, and a distributor page with the plant's capacity and FSSAI licence gives the trade side its own front door.

Design
The palette is a thali: a deep magenta for the announcement bar, the active category tab, the review button and the floating chat — the brand's own colour, used for everything that frames or navigates the page; a toasted golden yellow for every Add to Cart and Shop Now button, so the action is always the warmest thing on screen; a cream ground for the feature sections and the distributor page; and a leaf green reserved for the hero's second line and the natural-powder imagery. White carries the product grid so the pack photography does the colour work. Public Sans in Bold sets the section headings and product names with a clean, trustworthy voice, while Inter carries body copy, variant pickers and buttons — two neutral sans faces that keep a food store from looking either rustic or clinical. Buttons are softly rounded, and the certification badges sit in small rounded chips so they read as labels on a pack rather than as interface.

Headings and product names
Public Sans
Bold and SemiBold weights on the section titles, product names and the comparison table headers. A neutral grotesque designed for clarity at every size, which suits a brand whose claim is purity and simplicity.
Body copy and buttons
Inter
Regular weight on descriptions, nutrition tables, variant pickers and every button. Chosen for its legibility in dense tabular data, where a nutrition label and a price-per-gram line have to be read quickly on a phone.
What we built
Variant Selection on the Collection Card
Flavour — Traditional, Jeera, Green Chilli — and pack weight — 500 g or 1 kg — chosen directly on the product tile in the collection grid, with the price updating in place, so a repeat buyer stocks up without opening a single product page.
Price Per Gram, Inclusive of Tax
Every product shows its unit price alongside the pack price and a Save amount against the compare-at — the comparison an Indian grocery shopper makes against the local kirana and the marketplaces, made explicit.
Nutrition Facts and Ingredients on Every Product
A full per-100g nutrition table, the ingredient list and a Key Benefits strip — absolutely dry, oil-free, ultra slim — on each product page, because the brand's claim is a health one and the label has to back it.
Khurat vs Other Papads
A comparison table on the product page — taste and crispness, premium quality, hygienic preparation, strong packaging — that states the difference from sun-dried, oily traditional papad in the plainest possible form.
Frequently Bought Together
Bold Upsell bundles pairing the wheat and rice papads with a single Add All to Cart at a bundled saving — turning a ₹120 single-pack order into a two-pack basket that clears the free-shipping threshold.
Shipping Rules That Fit the Geography
Free standard shipping anywhere in Gujarat, free across India above ₹500, and a quick-delivery option priced by weight at checkout — stated in the announcement bar on every page, because shipping cost is the first objection in Indian grocery e-commerce.
Three Ranges, One Store
Papad, Natural Powders and Flakes as the three top-level collections, with a Shop by Goal section and a New Launch row so the wellness powders — jamun seed, moringa, neem, orange peel — are discovered by customers who arrived for papad.
We Are Available On
An Amazon, Flipkart and Blinkit logo strip on the homepage — acknowledging where the customer may already buy, and borrowing the marketplaces' trust for a brand site many visitors are seeing for the first time.
Distributor and Wholesale Route
A become-a-distributor page with the 30-tonne-a-day plant, the FSSAI licence number, the sun-drying-free USP and a Join as a Distributor form, plus a wholesale panel with two phone numbers on the homepage — the trade channel served from the same storefront.
Trust Badges and Recipes
A scrolling strip of FSSAI Approved, Non-GMO, Lab-Tested, 100% Vegan and Gluten-Free badges repeated on the homepage and product pages, a product FAQ in accordions, WhatsApp chat for support, and a recipes blog — masala papad, peri peri papad fries — that gives a staple a reason to be bought again.
