The making of A UK Storefront for a Global Mattress Brand

Origin sells award-winning hybrid mattresses in the UK. We built their UK Shopify store — gift-with-purchase, size pages, Klarna, 200-night trial. See how.

A UK Storefront for a Global Mattress Brand — the delivered interface

Challenges

  • The brand's existing storefronts set the structure, but the UK market buys on different signals — Which? and Good Housekeeping verdicts, next-day delivery, Klarna, bed sizes rather than model names — so the build had to keep the brand's playbook while rebuilding the commercial layer around British expectations
  • A direct brand competing on price with high-street retailers needs a way to add value without discounting, which is why the offer is a gift-with-purchase bundle with its retail value stated and a strike-through that is explained in a footnote rather than a percentage off the mattress
  • A mattress bought online cannot be tried in a showroom, so the trial, the warranty and the free return had to be more than footer links — they are accordions on every product page, a dedicated trial page and a repeated strip, because the purchase is only made once the risk feels removed

Solution

Origin Mattress is a sleep brand with its own lab and more than 100 awards, selling into several countries from one playbook — but each market buys a mattress differently. In the UK the customer compares on Which? and Good Housekeeping verdicts, expects next-day delivery, searches by bed size rather than by model, and is used to splitting the cost with Klarna. We built the UK storefront on Shopify with the Combine theme forked into a branch-based workflow, sharing the brand's structure — the three-mattress comparison, the sleep-expert endorsements, the awards wall — while rebuilding the commercial layer for Britain. Every mattress carries a gift-with-purchase bundle worth up to £493 in Coolmax pillows and a protector, shown as a strike-through against the combined retail value; five size landing pages from Single to Super King capture the way UK shoppers search; Klarna three-payment pricing appears beside every price; and the risk reversal is a 200-night trial, a 15-year warranty and free next-day delivery to the room of choice. Yotpo carries nearly 2,000 reviews on the bestselling Hybrid Pro, Trustpilot sits in the footer, and a clearance range gives the brand a place to sell returned-and-inspected stock without discounting the main line.

Design

The UK store keeps the brand's deep navy for the hero, the awards band and the footer, adds a bright cyan for the primary buttons and the Klarna price lines, and lets a single red carry the promotion — the announcement bar, the sale badge and the free-gift callouts. Red is the one colour allowed to shout, because the offer is the thing the UK store is built around, and keeping it off everything else means the navy and cyan still read as the brand. White and a pale grey alternate as section grounds so the long comparison and awards sections stay readable. Barlow carries everything, from the condensed-feeling headlines to the body copy and the Klarna price lines; a single slightly narrow grotesque lets dense comparison tables and specification lists fit without looking crowded. Buttons are pill-shaped at a 30px radius for the primary action and softly rounded at 10px for secondary links, and the strike-through pricing is set in the same weight as the live price so the saving is legible without being garish.

What we built

Gift-With-Purchase Instead of Discounts

Each mattress carries a tiered free bundle — one Coolmax pillow with the Hybrid, two with the Hybrid Pro, four items worth up to £493 with the LumbarCloud — shown as a strike-through against the combined retail value, so the offer reads as generosity rather than a price cut that resets expectations.

Three Mattresses, One Comparison Table

LumbarCloud, Hybrid Pro and Hybrid compared on the homepage across pressure relief, weightless comfort, cooling and chiropractic approval, with layers, depth, firmness, review count, from-price and Klarna monthly figure — the whole range decided on one screen.

Size Landing Pages

Single, Small Double, Double, King and Super King each get a dedicated page with UK dimensions, the models available in that size and a similar-brands average price beside Origin's — built for the way British shoppers actually search, which is by bed size, not by model name.

Sleep Now, Pay Later

Klarna's three interest-free payments quoted beside every price, on the comparison table and on the product page — a £374 Hybrid Pro becomes £118.66 a month — because in the UK the monthly figure is what the customer compares.

Next-Day Delivery With a Countdown

Order before 9am for free next-working-day delivery to the room of choice, with a live order-within countdown on the product page — a UK expectation set by the big retailers that a direct brand has to match to be considered.

200 Nights, 15 Years, Free Returns

A 200-night home trial explained as a three-step process, a 15-year warranty and free collection with a full refund — each with its own accordion on the product page and the trial given its own page, with returned mattresses donated to charity.

Upgrade Path on the Product Page

An Available Upgrades panel comparing the mattress being viewed with the next model up and the price difference — Hybrid Pro to LumbarCloud at +£423 — so the step-up is offered at the moment of decision rather than left to a separate page.

The UK Awards Wall

Which? Best Buy, Good Housekeeping Institute Approved, T3 Platinum, The Telegraph Best Value Hybrid, The Sun, Ideal Home and Men's Health Lab Approved — filterable by award type and dated by year, because these are the names a British mattress buyer trusts.

Beyond the Mattress

Pillows, a contour topper, a protector, storage, timber and upholstered bed frames, an adjustable bed and a pet bed — the range that turns a once-a-decade mattress customer into a repeat one, each with its own product page in the same template.

Clearance Range and Disposal Add-On

Inspected clearance mattresses sold at a lower price under their own badge, and a £54 old-mattress disposal service offered as a product-page add-on — two practical pieces that reduce returns friction and keep the main line at full price.
